 School Board to talk about Yurok program
The Del Norte County Unified School District Board will choose whether to approve the sale of a student-built house Thursday.The School Board will also discuss an agreement with the Yurok Tribe to create a third-grade curriculum based on the Yuroks history and culture.The district has agreed to sell the house on Keller Street for $185,000; it is currently in escrow.
 Ambulance rate hikes are rejected
Board calls proposed increases too drasticThe Del Norte County Board of Supervisors denied a request Tuesday by Del Norte Ambulance, Inc. to raise rates by 50 percent.This was the second time the ambulance company brought the issue before the board, with the increase first proposed June 8.Supervisor and Chairman Gerry Hemmingsen said the proposed increase was too drastic.
 Head-on collision causes 168-acre fire, fatality
A Brookings man died in a head-on collision with a South Coast Lumber Freightliner truck pulling two trailers loaded with veneer at 1:45 p.m. last Tuesday afternoon on Highway 101 south of Pistol River and north of Crook Point.
